Best Chase Credit Card Offers This Month: Why the Chase Sapphire Preferred Is My Top Pick

100,000 bonus points, new benefits, and a $95 annual fee — here’s why this is still the card I recommend most.

Chase Sapphire Preferred credit card review

It’s no secret that Chase has some of the best travel rewards credit cards available. They consistently offer valuable welcome bonuses, flexible points, and benefits that can genuinely help families travel for much less.

Right now, there is an elevated offer on the Chase Sapphire Preferred that is worth paying attention to. If you’ve been thinking about getting started with points and miles, this is one of the best times I’ve seen in a while.

This was the very first travel rewards card I ever opened, and honestly, it’s still the card I recommend most often to friends and family who are just getting started. If someone asked me where to begin with points and miles, this would almost always be my answer.

Don’t Let the Annual Fee Scare You

The Chase Sapphire Preferred recently received a refresh with several new benefits — and somehow Chase kept the annual fee at just $95 per year.

If you’re brand new to travel rewards, I completely understand if that annual fee makes you pause. I used to think the exact same thing. Why would I ever pay $95 for a credit card?

A Different Way to Think About It
If someone offered you $1,000 or more in travel for a $95 investment, would you take it? That’s exactly how I think about this card. The welcome bonus alone is worth far more than the annual fee when redeemed for travel — and that’s before you factor in the ongoing benefits and travel protections.
Important Reminder
This only makes sense if you pay your credit card balance in full every month. Points are only valuable when they help you travel without creating debt. If earning a welcome bonus causes you to spend money you wouldn’t have spent otherwise, it isn’t a good deal.

Why Flexible Points Are Such a Big Deal

The biggest reason I recommend the Chase Sapphire Preferred is because it earns Chase Ultimate Rewards® points — what the points world calls flexible points.

Flexible simply means you’re not locked into one airline or one hotel chain. As your travel goals change, your points work with you instead of limiting you. You can book directly through Chase Travel, or transfer your points to airline and hotel partners for potentially even greater value.

Airline Transfer Partners

✈️ Southwest Airlines ✈️ United Airlines ✈️ JetBlue ✈️ Air Canada (Aeroplan) ✈️ British Airways ✈️ Virgin Atlantic ✈️ Air France Flying Blue ✈️ Singapore Airlines

Hotel Transfer Partners

🏨 World of Hyatt 🏨 Marriott Bonvoy 🏨 IHG One Rewards
Pro Tip
Transferring to World of Hyatt or Air France Flying Blue consistently delivers some of the best value for families. I used Flying Blue miles to book four round-trip tickets to Italy — and Hyatt points to stay at an incredible property in Tuscany — both transfered from Chase Ultimate Rewards.

The New Benefits That Make This Card Even Better

The recent refresh added several new perks that make the Sapphire Preferred even easier to justify for families. Here are the three I get most excited about.

🏨
$100 Chase Travel Hotel Credit

Every cardmember year, you receive up to $100 in statement credits when you book a qualifying hotel stay through Chase Travel. Book just one hotel per year through the portal and this benefit alone offsets the entire annual fee.

🛂
Global Entry / TSA PreCheck Credit

Get reimbursed up to $120 every four years for a Global Entry, TSA PreCheck, or NEXUS application fee. If you’ve ever stood in a long airport security line with tired children, you’ll understand why this is so valuable.

🛡️
Strong Travel Protections

Trip delay, cancellation, baggage delay, lost luggage, primary rental car coverage, and emergency evacuation insurance — all included. When traveling with kids, these protections offer real peace of mind.

How You Earn Points on Everyday Spending

One of my favorite things about this card is how well it rewards purchases families are already making — groceries, dining, streaming, gas. You’re not changing your lifestyle to earn rewards; you’re just redirecting your spending onto a card that pays you back.

Travel Protections That Give Me Peace of Mind

One thing beginners often overlook is how valuable the built-in travel protections can be. When you’re traveling with kids, things don’t always go according to plan — and having these protections in place can save you hundreds of dollars when something goes wrong.

  • Trip Delay Reimbursement
  • Trip Cancellation Insurance
  • Trip Interruption Insurance
  • Baggage Delay Insurance
  • Lost Luggage Reimbursement
  • Primary Rental Car Coverage
  • Emergency Evacuation Coverage
  • Emergency Transportation

Hopefully you’ll never need these. But if your flight is delayed, a trip gets cut short, or your luggage goes missing, you’ll be very glad they’re there.

The Current Welcome Bonus

100,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards® Points After spending $5,000 in the first 3 months of account opening

This is one of the best public offers we’ve seen on this card. For many families, reaching the spending requirement doesn’t mean buying more stuff — it simply means putting your regular expenses on the card. Groceries, insurance, gas, utilities, subscriptions, and other bills you were already planning to pay can add up quickly.

Important
I never recommend spending extra just to earn a welcome bonus. The spending requirement should be met with purchases you were already planning to make. If you’d need to go into debt to hit the minimum spend, this offer is not right for you right now.

What Could 100,000 Points Get Your Family?

This is where points start becoming exciting. Depending on how you redeem them, 100,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards points could help pay for things like:

✈️Flights for a family of four
🏨Several nights at a Hyatt hotel
🏰A Disney vacation with lower travel costs
🌍Flights to Europe
🏖️A beach vacation
🗓️Multiple weekend getaways
🚗A road trip with hotel stays
💰$1,000+ in statement credits toward travel

Your exact value will depend on how you redeem your points, but this welcome bonus has the potential to save your family well over $1,000 on travel. When redeemed strategically through transfer partners, that value can go even higher.

Frequently Asked Questions

For most people who travel at least once a year, yes — easily. The $100 Chase Travel hotel credit alone offsets the annual fee. Add in the Global Entry/TSA PreCheck credit (worth $120 every four years), the welcome bonus, the travel protections, and the ongoing earning rates, and the card pays for itself many times over when used strategically.
You have two main options. First, you can book directly through the Chase Travel portal, where your points are worth 1.25 cents each (so 100,000 points = $1,250 toward travel). Second, and often more valuable, you can transfer your points at a 1:1 ratio to airline and hotel partners like Hyatt, United, or Air France Flying Blue, then redeem for award travel — which can dramatically increase the value per point.
The Sapphire Reserve has a $550 annual fee but comes with a $300 annual travel credit, Priority Pass lounge access, a higher 1.5x redemption rate through Chase Travel, and a few additional protections. For beginners and most families, the Sapphire Preferred’s $95 fee is the right place to start. The Reserve makes more sense once you’re traveling frequently and can take full advantage of the lounge access and higher credits.
Chase has an informal guideline sometimes called the “5/24 rule” — if you’ve opened 5 or more personal credit cards across any bank in the past 24 months, Chase will typically not approve you for a new card. It’s also worth noting that you generally can’t earn the welcome bonus on the Sapphire Preferred if you’ve received a Sapphire welcome bonus in the past 48 months. Check your application history before applying.

You don’t need to become a points expert overnight. You just need a good first card, a travel goal, and a plan to use your points responsibly.
